When it comes to business, Chip Conk knows how to get results. When he was a student at UC Santa Barbara, Chip came up with the idea to start his own wall calendar business. Mr. Conk's company, Day Dream Publishing, had humble beginnings. The first images printed in the Day Dream Publishing calendars were nonspecific pictures of puppies and kittens. With hard work from Chip Conk and his team of employees, Day Dream Publishing was able to obtain the rights to publish pictures of star athletes from the NFL, NBA, and NBL, Warner Brothers' themes, including Jurassic Park and Looney Tunes, and supermodels like Cindy Crawford, Paulina Porizkova, and Kathy Ireland. The company grew to be one of the biggest calendar and poster publishers in the world and even had more than 600 employees on the payroll. The success of Day Dream Publishing was all because of Chip Conk's original idea; his company produced more than 2,400 different varieties of calendars and posters. Day Dream Publishing's products were sold in 26 countries. During Chip Conk's leadership, Day Dream Publishing grew about 30 percent each year from 1984 to 1997. Chip Conk sold Day Dream Publishing in 1997. Later, Chip Conk, among others, started Montecito Property Company, where employees acquire older properties and renovate them for leasing. Montecito Property Company developed into a $1.7 billion company. MPC had the honor of being recognized as the second-largest condo converter in the U.S. in 2005 and in 2006. Montecito Property Company operates all over the country. Mr. Conk is now working at Montecito Medical Investment Company, where he serves as the chief executive officer and president of the medical real estate company. Montecito Medical was named the second fastest growing medical real estate company in America in 2006. Chip Conk now lives in Santa Barbara and enjoys spending time with his family.
